Computer Requirements

Students are responsible for having up-to-date computers and software for full compatibility in an online course.

  1. COMPUTER access. Do NOT plan to use a phone, iPad, or tablet device as your ONLY method of completing an online course.  Although they may work for the majority of your courses, some courses require specific production or testing software. Windows Pro tablets will often work since software can be installed on them. Tablets and iPads that only install "Apps" and not software will not be sufficient.
  2. STABLE Internet connection (not a cellular or mobile hotspot)
  3. Recommended minimum browser: Recent Google Chrome, recent Mozilla Firefox, Safari 6, Internet Explorer 9+ (IE 10 required for drag and drop of files from outside the browser into Moodle).
    • IE8 and Safari 5 or below are not supported. They may still work but they are not tested regularly and there might be some problems. Like most of the world's Web sites and browser producers, we encourage you to keep your browsers current to improve security and functionality while saving us valuable time. (For example see what Google is doing.)
    • Note: Windows XP is too old of an operating system to upgrade to Internet Explorer 9; therefore, it is not recommended for online courses at SCC.  Please plan to upgrade your computer/software before continuing in an online course.
    • Links are provided on the Downloads tab to download Firefox, IE, or Chrome.
    • Also refer to more detailed information on our Software Help - Browsers page
